A HEALING SPACE

FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

The Problem
Philadelphia is in a crisis.

Nearly 1,000 children have been shot in the last three years, and the city recently declared a "Youth Violence Emergency" as families and communities cry out for change. As young people search for identity, purpose, and safety, they’re met with violence, disconnection, and institutional neglect.

But this isn’t the full story.

Philadelphia is also home to one of the richest legacies of Islam in America — a history of faith, dignity, resistance, and culture that shaped entire generations. From the early 20th century to today, Islam has offered young people in Philadelphia a sense of discipline, identity, and belonging. Unfortunately, much of that beauty has been forgotten or made inaccessible — especially to youth most at risk.

Our Solution: The Grounded Community Center

Grounded CSK (Community, Service, Knowledge) has spent years cultivating sacred space for youth — meeting them in their wholeness and pain, honoring their culture, and reconnecting them to their Creator. Now, we’ve acquired a space in West Philadelphia, and we need your help to bring it to life.

With your support, we’re launching the Grounded Community Center — a first-of-its-kind hub for spiritual healing, mentorship, cultural identity, and personal development.

This space will offer:

After-school programs rooted in faith, emotional wellness, and critical thinking

Youth mentorship and leadership development

Free access to Wi-Fi and technology for students and community members

Work and study space in a peaceful, affirming environment

Islamic education that’s relevant, holistic, and connected to culture and justice

Healing Art Space that teaches the community to express themselves and tell their stories in a creative way

Programs on identity, mental health, and healing from trauma

Why It Matters

When a young person feels safe, seen, and spiritually grounded, they don’t need to seek belonging in the streets.

They begin to heal. To lead. To thrive.

This isn’t just about a building — it’s about transforming lives and restoring the legacy of Islam as a source of guidance, beauty, and empowerment for a new generation.

Our Roots: A Legacy Reimagined

The story of Grounded began not with a building, but with a seed — planted by the pioneers who came before us.

Inspired by elders who toiled for decades to build sacred community spaces in Philadelphia, a new generation picked up the shovel. In 2022, a young couple approached the leadership of Masjidullah: The Center for Human Excellence with a simple but powerful idea: what if we built something for the youth — a space that felt like home?

With the support of Imam Idris Abdul Zahir and the Masjidullah community, they began hosting bi-monthly and annual programs to restore vibrancy, connection, and purpose among young people. What started as a modest initiative soon became a movement — with nearly 100 programs held in just the first year.

It didn’t take long to realize: the need for Grounded wasn’t limited to one masjid. It was a call echoing across the entire city.

From a Seed to a Movement

Today, Grounded CSK and its founders have held over 200 events in the last 4 years, reaching more than 500 youth and community members across Philadelphia. Our model is rooted in faith, culture, and healing, offering spiritually grounded programs that center real-world challenges, identity, and belonging.

We’ve created signature programs like:

Cool Beans – youth-centered dialogue circles

Mic Drop – open mic nights for creative expression

Rise to Manhood – an outdoor mentorship retreat

Dear Sis – women-led spaces for growth and healing

Grounded Conversations – safe spaces for middle schoolers

The Grounded Path – our flagship Islam 101 series

Each program carries the heart of our mission: to foster God-conscious, welcoming, and culturally relevant spaces that help people connect with their faith and each other.

Our Goal

We need to raise $50,000 to fully launch the center and sustain operations for a year.
Our first milestone is $15,000 by October to cover the space deposit and initial furnishings.
